THE BIBLE HOUR
|
The
Goal of the Bible Hour is: |
|
To nurture youth and children into intelligent, obedient, biblically
informed discipleship. |
|
The Bible study hour
is the core of the entire LOGOS Program.
Everything we do in the
other three parts of the Program is based on our understanding of what
the Scriptures tell us about God’s love for us and what it means to live
as disciples of Jesus Christ.
|
|
Knowledge of the Scriptures is absolutely
essential to any serious effort of discipleship.
In the LOGOS System, young
people are taught to put biblical knowledge into practice as they live
together in Play Time, Worship Skills, and Family Time. |
FAMILY TIME
|
The Goal of Family Time is:
|
|
To provide a joyous,
cross-generational celebration of personhood over a shared meal as we
experience being the family of God.
|
|
If we want our young
people to have great memories of their church, and if we are preparing
food for the Children of God, then we will present the best possible
meals in the best possible environment.
Eating together is an
intimate act and a way to show acceptance.
Family Time is not just a
time to eat, however.
In Family Time we seek to
deepen the experience of the caring Christian community in the
extended family
of the church.
|
|
Each table will have
approximately 4 – 6 young people (grades K – 8th)
and two adults (table parents) who will stay together for the whole
year.
The goal is to create a
family group around the table.
(Ninth – twelfth graders
have their own table with table parents)
The meal provides an arena
for bonding relationships to develop.
The theme, the meal, the
games and activities allow us to eat, play, talk, and grow together.
Family Time is a time to
teach, but the primary
reason we are together is to build Christian relationships.
|
RECREATION TIME
|
The Goal of Recreation Time is:
|
| To experience great fun at
the expense of no one else. |
|
Young people in the Recreation Time part of
the LOGOS program are taught to play
theologically,
respecting the worth, dignity, and preciousness of each other.
As everyone learns to live
by the only rule of the LOGOS Program, they enter a quality of
relationships with one another that is not available to them anywhere
else. |
|
Recreation Time
activities may cover a broad range of interests and efforts.
Some are cooperative games,
some are craft activities that can be shared with church members,
shuts-ins, and others.
The fun that Christians can
have together is experienced and youth and children know that it is
great fun to be at the church.
|
WORSHIP SKILLS
|
The Goal of Worship Skills is:
|
|
To develop responsibility for and practice in worship skills
because worship is our primary service to God as disciples. |
| Some ways that we may
accomplish this goal are:
vocal choir, hand chime
choir, dramatized scripture, dance, puppetry, choral readings, God rods,
to name just a few.
Respect, reverence,
faithfulness, stewardship, and an understanding of worship are developed
through regular participation in worship.
In Worship Skills young
people give themselves wholeheartedly to a group endeavor, which
requires regularity, loyalty, dependability, and idealism.
These are all fundamentals
of church leadership in worship and in the life of the church. |
| |
IN SUMMARY
|
|
|
These four parts
characterize the activities in which the early Christians participated
as they formed Christian communities.
Every church includes
these activities to some extent in their life together.
In LOGOS we experience all
of them every time we meet so that the full impact of the combined
elements can provide an arena for the practice of Christian
relationships.
